Velvert® -Disc is a natural anti-microbial barrier dressing consisting of a polymeric sponge loaded with patented natural antimicrobial formulations.
Velvert® -Disc is intended for use as a hydrophilic wound dressing that is used to absorb exudate and to cover a wound caused by the use of vascular and non-vascular percutaneous medical devices.
Velvert® -Disc is found to be effective even against the superbugs as proved in the time kill assay, where the population of microorganisms is 99.9999% reduced within 30 minutes in vitro.
-
- Velvert®-Disc is a sponge based natural dressing loaded with natural anti-microbial formulations.
- Used to absorb exudate and to cover a wound caused by the use of vascular and non-vascular percutaneous medical devices.
- Proven to reduce local infections, catheter-related blood stream infections (CRBSI), and skin colonization of microorganisms commonly related to CRBSI, in patients with central venous or arterial catheters.
- Provides immediate and continuous antimicrobial protection with integrated natural antimicrobial formulation.
- The polymeric sponge is biocompatible and non-toxic to human tissue.
-
- The active formulation of Velvert® -Disc kills microbes by different ways, for example by interacting with cell membrane, binding with metalloproteinase, inhibition in protein synthesis and DNA replication etc.

- Step 1: Thoroughly clean the catheter site and surrounding areas with either a CHG Swab or Alcohol Wipes prior to the insertion of the catheter.
- Step 2: Insert catheter into the prepared area. If using a securing device, be sure to leave at least 2.5 cm from the insertion site.
- Step 3: Open Velvert® -Disc package and extract the sterile dressing using aseptic techniques.
- Step 4: Ensure that Velvert® -Disc is applied such that stamped side, i.e. the marked side faces upwards after the application.
- Step 5: Apply Velvert® -Disc on catheterization site. Be sure that all parts of the disc are in contact with the skin.
- Step 6: Rotate the disc if need be to ensure the slit is directly under the catheter and the disc is fully in contact with the skin.
- Step 7: Secure the catheter and Velvert® -Disc with a secondary sterile transparent dressing. Date it as per hospital protocols.
- Step 8: Change the dressing as per facility protocol or at least every 5 days. Change the dressing appropriately for high exuding wounds as per facility protocol.
- Step 9: To remove Velvert®-Disc, simply hold the catheter in place and peal/pull the transparent dressing from the edges (away from the catheter). Velvert®-Disc will be removed with the transparent dressing.
- Step 10: If required, re-apply a new piece of Velvert®-Disc with a new sterile secondary dressing as described from step 1.
Note: The dressing needs to be changed every 5th day.
